School survey; Do you think administration should have to approve a student newspaper before it's published?

I am doing a survey for school, and I was hoping you guys could help me out! the question is Do you think that a high school, student written newspaper should have to be approved by the school administration before it is published and distributed to students? A simple yes or no answer is fine! Thanks so much!

I understand that it's a school newspaper and things need to be edited to a certain extent, but it limits the rights of free speech. In my experience, if a school wishes to approve a newspaper before it is printed and distributed, it will not allow stories or articles which can give the school a bad reputation.


All you need is a good administrator who understands the importance of the student's abilities to speak out against (or for) the school in particular issues, but also one who knows when and where to draw the line between appropriate and inappropriate.

Reply:Absolutely! It may seem like a student centered activity and publication, but the fact is it is a SCHOOL newspaper and it controlled by the school to some extent. There has to be someone who will cut out things that really have no business being published.

In college, no. there is a big difference between being a minor and being an adult
