1. A school survey shows that 10% of students are in band, 12% of students are in athletics, and 6% of students are in both band and athletics. What is the probability that a student is in band or athletics?
2. Three coins are tossed. Find the probability that exactly 2 coins show heads if the first coin shows heads.
3. Given the integers 1 through 33, what is the probability that one of these integers is divisible by 4 if it is a multiple of 6.
A school survey shows that 10% of students are in band, 12% of students are in athletics, and 6% of students a
For any two events A and B the following is true
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B), or in more mathy terms:
P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B)
Let B be the event of being in the band
Let A be the event of being in athletics
Find P(A U B)
= P(A) + P(B) - P(A ∩ B)
= 0.12 + 0.10 - 0.06
= 0.16
2)
we know from the binomial distribution that the unconditional probabilities for the number of heads showing in three tosses of a fair coin are:
P( X = 0 ) = 1/8
P( X = 1 ) = 3/8
P( X = 2 ) = 3/8
P( X = 3 ) = 1/8
for any two events A and B, with P(B) ≠ 0, then the conditional probability of A given B is:
P(A | B) = P( A ∩ B) / P(B)
We are looking for:
P( 2 heads | first toss is a head )
= P(2 heads and 1st is a head) / P(first is a head)
= (2/8) / (1/2)
= 0.5
3)
multiples of 6 are:
{6, 12, 18, 24, 30}
2 of these are divisible by 4,
the probability is 2/5
Reply:1.
Take the number of students to be 100%.
The number of people in a band is 10%.
The number of people in athlethics is 12%
The number of people in both is 6%.
So 4% of people are only in a band (10%-6%)
And 6% are only in athletics (12% - 6%)
The possiblity of being in at least one is 4% + 6% + 6%
(People just in a band + Athletics peeps + peeps that do both)
=16%
2. Just because the first coin is a head does not impact the other two probabilities.
Eg. If i toss a coin and it is a head, the probability of me tossing and getting a head the next time is still 50/50.
So we are told the first coin is a heads and this is a definite and we can ignore it.
There are two coins left. The prob(heads) is 50% or 0.5
To get this with two coins we multiply
prob(heads) X prob(heads)
= 0.5 X 0.5 = 0.25 or 1/4
3.
The multiples of 6 between 1 - 33 are
6 12 18 24 30
12 and 24 are divisible by 4.
So the probability is 2 out of 5 = 2/5 = 0.4

If I say "French wines", what do you think? (survey by a student)?
I'm a French student studying for one year in JNU in Delhi and I have to write a paper on French wines in India.
Therefore, I would be glad :
- to have any kind of information on French wines in India
- to know your thoughts or opinions on French wines (even negative ones of course)
- to know what the words "French wines" make you think of, what image you have of it
- or even, if you've never tasted French wine, what prejudices you have for or against them, and whether you would like to try them or not.
Many thanks to any one answering this question. Of course, you don't have to be an expert in wines to answer it, and it's even better if you're not an expert. :-D
If I say "French wines", what do you think? (survey by a student)?
French wines... Monbazillac !
And no... I'm afraid that, even in civilised France, wine is NOT served in Macdonald's !
Reply:the best wine i the world ofcourse but then that would be a biased opinion because i am part french and i enjoy all true french things!
India is a wonderful country so is france so put them together and you get the most cultural experience you could wish for!
Reply:When I think of French wines, I think of Bordeaux wines. French wines have a reputation for quality wines and I suppose that the reputation is earned because there are, in fact, many great French wines.
While French wines are noted for their quality, most people on a daily basis drink wines of lesser quality. Wine is known for being the drink of choice in France. I'm not sure if that's really true. I've heard they even serve wine at McDonalds in France. I have no idea if this is really true.
Good luck with your paper.
Reply:1. I don't know much about French wines in India.
2. I love French wines. I find that they are more balanced and interesting than Californian or Italian wines. Loire whites are the best in the world.
3. French wine makes me think of positive experiences with friends and family.
4. I'm French-American, and I've been to France. I love the people and the culture, so I have no negative stereotypes.
Reply:When you say "French Wines", I think refined %26amp; rustic @ the same time. I guess that's because the French have perfected wine making, drinking %26amp; cooking over so many years. Grape culture is not separate from French culture.
Mmmm... Cotes du Rhone

Im looking for different survey topics because i have to make a survey for college student to take.?
Try something along the lines of drinking, like " How many students actually drink alcohol instead of soda on campus parties"?

Dear Readers, Will you take this survey to help a graduate student? Thanks.?
The survey is located http://www.georgetownroundtable.com and it will take less than 5 minutes of your time. It's very very short obviously and pretty self-explanatory with its guidelines. Your participation will greatly help my term project. If you have been a researcher, you know how precious data can be for you when your final projects are due soon. Many many thanks, J.

ok , but will I get to see the results ?
took it but not sure what the purpose is ,
Reply:OK. Done. One bit of advice though - some of the explanations and clarifications were below the question. They'd be better placed above them so people actually read the comments before they answer the question.
Reply:DONE! anything to help a willing learner

A survey among 50 students showed that 30 students played football?
a survey among 50 students showed that 30 students played football, 9 students played cricket, x students played neither cricket nor football, 3x students played cricket only.
find the amount that played cricket only.
A survey among 50 students showed that 30 students played football?
Cricket only = 3x
So Cricket and Football = 9-3x
So football only = 30 -(9-3x) =21 +3x
Total =50
21+3x + 9 - 3x +3x +x =50
4x = 20
x=5
Cricket only =15
Reply:Intersection = 9 - 3x
[30 - (9 - 3x)] + (9 - 3x) + x + 3x = 50
30 - 9 + 3x + 9 - 3x + x + 3x = 50
30 + 4x = 50
4x = 20
x = 5
Hence 3(5) = 15 students played cricket only.
Reply:If 9 played cricket how can 15 play cricket only ?. I dont think there is enough info to get an excact number you are gonna end up with a less than or more than issue.
Actually I think the problem is written wrong .
If 20 didnt play football. and of those 20 they either did or didnt play cricket. so did is 3x didnt is 1 x so
3x plus 1 x = 20
which also gives me X=5
which is impossible because you end up with more students playing cricket only than the number given as playing cricket.

I recieved an email from this company through my university email. I am wanting to make sure that it is legit and they are not just trying to get my credit card info. It does cost $15 for a one-time membership fee.
Has anyone ever done this? Is it legit? THANKS

its a scam bro. No legit survey site will charge you for your opinions.... I've done surveys for a long time and I created a whole blog about FREE surveys. I posted tutorial videos, proof of payment, legit survey sites, and contact info if you want more guidance or have questions.

Not to say yours isn't real. Ask yourself is it worth the $15 to find out?
